If you’re an aspiring jewelry retouching service provider or looking to grow your jewelry business, one of the most important things you can do is make sure you have beautiful images of your products. The biggest issue with photography of jewelry, though, is that lighting can be extremely challenging and requires some practice to get right. To help you on your way, here are three tips for taking better photos of your jewelry[1] designs that will not only look more beautiful but also help you stand out from your competition.

1) Set up lighting

One of the most important parts of taking a good photo is using good lighting. To have great light, try to find an area with minimal shadows that’s not too bright (too much light can wash out color). Then, use natural light when possible, but if it’s cloudy or dark outside, consider bringing a small lamp indoors. And finally, adjust your camera settings to include more natural-looking tones that make jewelry appear rich and stunning.

2) Use natural light whenever possible

Use natural light whenever possible, and make sure to place the subject of your photo directly in front of a window. This will bring out the colors in your designs while also making them pop on camera.

1) If you're looking for a midday break from direct sunlight, look for another window with strong indirect light (even if it's not as sunny).

2) Find a curtain or other surface that blocks out one side of the sun and avoid aiming that side towards your subject.

3) Invest in a decent camera

If you want to take professional quality pictures of your jewelry, invest in a DSLR. These cameras are more expensive than a point and shoot camera, but they also take better quality pictures. Plus, it is much easier to take pictures with a DSLR because you don’t have to deal with all the lens caps and buttons that often come with a point and shoot camera.
