Bored Surrealists invented a parlor game in the early 20th century in which players sketch portions of figures on paper, fold the paper so that only a little portion is visible, and then give the paper to the next player to continue. In a game now known as Exquisite Corpse, a strange, multipart monster would be produced in this manner.

Today, a group of independent developers who (mainly) operate in the lo-fi PSX style have produced a series of free games based on a shared narrative—with a twist. Each game in C.H.A.I.N.G.E.D. (Chainged) concludes with a decision that feeds into a different game, resulting in a branching sequence of games with distinct endings. You must understand where I'm heading with this, right? In typical exquisite corpse form, developers were only aware of games in their own branch that came before them.

Some branches emerged totally on their own, leading to games with drastically different plots—or not, depending on the circumstances. As expected from this gang, there are some weirdos acting irrationally and producing some amazing work.

Because a large portion of "this crew" is the same group of individuals who created and are associated with 2020's Haunted PS1 Demo Disc, a free compilation of oddities, demos, and one-off projects that our Fraser Brown called "a good way to shine a spotlight on indie dev projects, which might normally fall through the cracks."
