Embroidered clothing and accessories have intricate stitches and may require special care when washing to keep them looking New Year after year. We always recommend following the fabric care instructions on each item, but here are some additional tips that may be useful! The gentlest option is to hand wash and air dry the item, but we understand that not everyone has the time. We recommend that you follow these simple care instructions if you want to get the most out of your embroidered garments. Keep in mind that hand sewn designs are typically more delicate, so you’ll want to use the gentlest method possible.

Embroidered designs, whether handmade or machine sewed, are a great way to stand out! They are ideal for personalized gifts, professional uniforms, or adding a splash of color to your wardrobe. But how should embroidered clothing be cared for? One of the primary benefits of embroidered garments is that their designs are typically more durable than those of other types of garments, such as screen printed ones. That doesn’t mean you can just care for them however you want! Even the best embroidery jobs can be ruined over time if they are not properly cared for.

1. Washing

Wash all embroidered garments with a mild detergent. Use of chlorine bleach or optical brightening agents is not recommended. If bleach is required for washing, use non-chlorine bleach as directed on the label. Cold water machine wash. Gentle wash cycle. If color residue appears in the water, rinse several times in lukewarm and then cold water until the rinse water is clear. Remove as soon as the wash cycle is finished. Never leave wet embroidered clothing soaking or in water, or lying in a pile. When the washing cycle is finished, immediately place the articles in the dryer and use the normal setting. (We recommend preheating the dryer for best results.) The embroidered items should not be wrung out. Avoid rubbing stained embroidery.

• Dry cleaning

Embroidery can be dry cleaned; however, extreme caution should be used when doing so. When dry cleaning dark shades, extra care must be taken. Pre-spotting agents should be avoided.

• Industrial laundering

Garments embroidered with Super Strength Rayon® or Twister Tweed® Rayon can be industrially laundered if the International Fabricare Institute’s guidelines are followed. For more information, please call or fax. Embroidery can be dry cleaned; however, extreme caution should be used when doing so. When dry cleaning dark shades, extra care must be taken. Pre-spotting agents should be avoided.

• Iron

Iron embroidered fabrics on the reverse side at all times. It is recommended that embroidery be ironed between two pieces of cloth. It is not recommended to wet or use a steam iron on embroidery before ironing. If you must iron, avoid using steam and avoid placing the iron directly on the embroidered area. Instead, iron the reverse side or use a pressing cloth over the embroidery.
