Software Defined Radios is actually radio communications systems which are enabled by using software instead of hardware. The most important intention of a Software Defined Radio is to allow several users to communicate without using additional hardware. It's also used in military applications and telecommunication applications. In a sense, a Software Defined Radio emulates a phone handset.
