Gil is a crucial currency in FFXIV. Players can use it to buy new gear and weapons. They can also spend it on glamour items and mounts.

Players can earn Gil in a variety of ways in FFXIV, from doing daily duties to completing the Challenge Logs. However, the best way to make Gil is through crafting and gathering.

Crafting

In crafting systems, time is often a resource constraint that limits a player’s ability to perform other gameplay actions (either in real-world or gameworld time). Players must execute a sequence of repetitive actions to fill a completion bar to craft an item. Depending on how they progress in the crafting system, this can increase or decrease the chance of success or failure.

Some games require a player to be in a specific gameworld location (such as the hangar in Kerbal Space Program) to perform a crafting action. However, not all of these gameplay constraints are created equal; systems that introduce thematic frames without a functional gameplay constraint (such as Besiege) receive a lower score than those that include hard location constraints.

Gathering

FFXIV offers gamers several ways to make Gil by questing, crafting or farming. Questing will earn gamers quite a bit and progress the story, but it's also time consuming. Leve quests, the daily and weekly hunts, and completing Treasure Map rotations will also earn gamers a significant amount of Gil.

Crafting professions like Armorer, Goldsmith and Alchemist are the most valuable because they make high-level gear that can sell for a lot of money on the player Market Board. Gatherers can also make a lot of Gil by selling items to vendors or using the Mender to upgrade pure junk loot.

However, there are a few common sinkholes that can eat into players' Gil supplies. Teleportation fees can eat up lots of Gil, as can buying materials to craft new items. Also, many players buy equipment and weapons from other players to save on time. Luckily, the NPC Hismena in Rowena's Center for Cultural Promotion can act as a "Gil Doubler" on any Allagan Tomestone of Poetics acquired through completing Beast Tribe Quests or Guildleves.

Combat

Set in the vast fantasy world of Eorzea, Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players choose a Job (or Class) to play, forming parties with other players to complete quests and tackle endgame content.

With 14 combat classes and 8 crafters, most players will find themselves in need of some Gil as they gear up. Crafting can be one of the best ways to get your hands on some cash with items always in demand and the chance for high-level rewards like Tomestones.

However, it can also be a bit of a money pit. If you sell your work for too cheap it encourages other players to undercut you and that cuts into your profit.

Leves are another great way to passively accrue Gil in FFXIV, with the Old Sharlayan leves being particularly lucrative. However, their benefits fade quickly if you use up all your allowances and they only recharge every 12 real-world hours.

Finally, Treasure Maps offer a quick way to earn some Gil with the potential for a lot more if you sell the loot on the Market Board or trade it in for Materia. This method is a good option for Miners, Botanists, and Fishers looking to offset their teleportation costs.
